Why Multi-Face Parts Need Coordinated Manufacturing Planning

Angled features and multiple interfaces make tool access, workholding and datums part of the same engineering decision.

Complexity comes from relationships

A component can be difficult to manufacture because its features must remain aligned across several faces. A bore, mounting surface and angled hole may each be straightforward to cut, while their relationship makes the setup and inspection plan more demanding.

Additional axes change tool access

Five-axis equipment provides more ways to orient the tool relative to a workpiece. Depending on the geometry, that access can help machine angled or contoured features and reduce the need to reposition the part. It does not remove the need for a suitable fixture, clear datums or a defined inspection approach.

Describe the assembly function

When sourcing a multi-face component, identify the interfaces that locate it in the assembly. Include the current model, drawing and any restrictions on holding or surface contact. Those details support a more informed choice of manufacturing route.
